Dockyard Dames @ The Great Southern Slam

The Dockyard Dames travelled to Adelaide to take part in The Great Southern Slam (TGSS) last weekend, 11-13 June 2022.

What a joy to see this tournament back after the covid hiatus and see the Dames on the track again for the first time since 2019.

The Dames had two games on the first day of completion.

They took on Westside Roller Derby (VIC) in a bout that was full of big hits and incredibly strong derby from both teams. It was neck and neck for the first half, but at the final whistle the score was Westside 154 to the Dames 94.

In the afternoon, the Dames were up against Adelaide Roller Derby (SA) in another incredible show of roller derby. There were lead changes across the bout and at the final whistle it was Adelaide 147 and Dames 128.

We cannot rave about these two teams enough. They were beautiful to play and it was a pleasure to be in Pool C of the 2022 TGSS tournament with them.

With two loses, that meant the Dames TGSS was at an end, but that was when the real work begun in the grandstand.

We cheered on NRDL’s Silver Hammer playing in not one, but two challenge bouts (Silver got to play with Miracle Whips, yeah, kinda iconic!).

Then from supporting our Pool C comrades, starting Mexican waves and cheering so loud we could be heard on the live stream, the Dockyard Dames showcased the heart of derby in action, supporting each other, having fun and watching the rest of an incredible tournament.

Now the Dames count down to the first 5x5 game in July and look to TGSS in 2024!
