The Newcastle Roller Derby Home Teams competition opened with a tightly contested bout on Saturday night, with the Bogey Rollers edging out the Harbour Hellcats 86–80 after a match marked by multiple lead changes and strong defensive performances.
The Hellcats held the advantage at halftime, leading 51–45, thanks to consistent scoring from jammers Kimmy Kaboom and Katrick Slayze, supported by the versatile Melon Head, who rotated between blocking and jamming duties. The Hellcats’ pack was further strengthened by the power and stability of Eggs Bennie, whose presence helped anchor several key defensive stands. Pivot Marilyn Tantrum executed several well‑timed run‑backs that forced Bogey jammers into long resets and drained valuable energy.
The Bogey Rollers mounted their comeback in the second half, led by jammers Kathinate and Missy TuffIt, who capitalised on improved pack cohesion. Blockers Horror Rocket and That Kye provided crucial defensive stability, with That Kye delivering a series of clever run‑backs that slowed the Hellcats’ momentum. Pivot Fannie Tastic directed the Bogey pack with composure throughout the match.
The Home Teams competition continues on April 11, with the Harbour Hellcats set to face the Fort Smashleys at Kahibah Public School. With both sides eager to make an early statement in the season standings, another tightly contested match is expected.
